| President's Corner - April 2005 | March 23, 2005 |
For our April meeting, we will again be showcasing pharmacy practice residency projects conducted by our area pharmacy residents who have been working hard in preparing their projects to present to our membership. The first presentation is titled "Compliance with Sequential Compression Devices Used for Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis in Surgical Patients" presented by Heather Bockheim, Pharm.D. from Spectrum Health. Our second presentation is titled "Pharmacokinetics of Once Daily Tobramycin for Therapy of Pulmonary Exacerbation of Cystic Fibrosis" presented by Margaret Lincoln, Pharm.D. from Bronson Hospital. I would like to thank these residents for sharing their projects and results with us.
Further update on the increase in membership: The increase to $20 will be in effect as of January 2006. A reminder will be sent to you in the fall.
Again, I wanted to remind all of you of our annual WMSHP Spring Seminar held on May 5, 2005 at the Grand Rapids Hilton. We have a number of great speakers this year. Keep an eye out in your mailbox for our flyer!

As Jean mentioned in the President’s Corner, we “jumped the gun” when we announced an increase in our membership dues last month. The dues increase will not take place until next January.
However, a few of our members had already paid $20 for their 2005 dues. For these members, I have credited an extra year of membership to their accounts. If you paid the higher rate for dues and would rather have your $10 refunded back to you, please contact me at (616) 656-2457 or webmaster@wmshp.net.
In the meantime, I would encourage members to help WMSHP by signing up for our email newsletter. Roughly $500 each year goes toward postage for the paper newsletters; not to mention the considerable effort needed to print and assemble them every month. The email newsletter contains all of the same information as the paper version, and is typically delivered a few days earlier.
If you’d like to sign up for the email newsletter, go to wmshp.net/address (all lower-case letters) and sign-in with the Member Code on your mailing label. Then, change the “Contact Via” section below your name to “Email”. Please note that you will still have items like our Annual Spring Seminar brochure mailed to your home, and you may go back to receiving the paper newsletters at any time. Also, we will never give your email address to anyone else.
If you have questions, or are unable to sign up for the email newsletter online, you may contact me at (616) 656-2457 or webmaster@wmshp.net.
Thanks, and I hope to see you at our upcoming events.
