System Clinical Pharmacy Manager

POSITION PURPOSE:
  • Oversee clinical pharmacy programs for a multi-hospital system. Provide leadership and direction to the pharmacy staff regarding the management of clinical programs within the health system that enhance patient care and patient outcomes as well as improve the financial performance of the system
  • Ensure that the health system clinical programs and therapeutic initiatives are maintained.
  • Provides clinical education, support and leadership
  • Interfaces effectively with hospital, medical staff, administrative personnel, System Director of Pharmacy and pharmacy staff
  • Assists System Director of Pharmacy with recommendations for management of medication-related costs within the facility
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops system-based clinical programs. Sets clinical goals for each hospital within the system.
  • Maintain established standards for clinical performance
  • Provides direction by assisting with development of action plans for the hospital within the system to meet clinical goals
  • Prepares clincial reports utilizing software programs and analytical tools to track DRG, drug cost and other parameters all intended to measure the impact of therapy, length of stay and cost of therapy
  • Develops and enhances professional relationships and communicates effectively with healthcare practitioners, facility administrative personnel, and within the pharmacy
  • Actively participate and provides direction in hospital formulary management and serves as a consultant regarding P&T activity
  • Serves or participates on applicable system committees
  • Develop and coordinate clinically related quality improvement programs (i.e. ADRs) that meet all proprietary, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Develop medication utilization review programs and document their results
  • Coach/manage/train pharmacy staff
  • Ensure that a leadership development program is in place for key pharmacy staff
  • Provides clinical education support by conducting in-services or workshops on corporate initiatives and identified problem areas to medical, nursing and pharmacy staff
  • Train and educate pharmacy staff to provide pharmaceutical care and practice concepts
  • Coordinates pharmacy school teaching and residency programs within the health system
  • Serve as a clinical resource to facilities without a clinical manager or when clinical manager is unavailable as needed
  • Participate in the assessment and evaluation of professional staff
  • Participates in the recruitment and hiring process for clinical pharmacy staff
Position requirements:
  • Advanced pharmacy degree (M.S., Pharm. D), residency training preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in hospital clinical pharmacy practice
  • 1-3 years of pharmacy management experience.
  • Pharmacy license (or eligibility for licensure) in applicable state.

Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - Critical Care - Borgess Medical Center

Borgess Medical Center, located in Kalamazoo, MI., has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Pharmacy Clinical Specialist to participate as an integral member of our Critical Care Team. This is a full-time, first shift position.

The primary responsibility of this position is meeting the clinical needs of Critical Care patients and includes rounding with the Critical Care team in the cardiac, neurosurgical, trauma/surgical and medical intensive care units. The Critical Care Clinical Specialist is responsible for ensuring appropriate drug therapy, implementing and monitoring clinical protocols and guidelines, as well as enhancing the delivery of evidence-based medicine. Other responsibilities include educating pharmacy PG1 residents, medical residents, as well as pharmacy and medical students. Representation on medical center committees and collaboration in research initiatives is also encouraged. This position will also work in collaboration with the other four Pharmacy Clinical Specialists.

Pharmacist - Borgess Medical Center

Borgess Medical Center, located in Kalamazoo, MI., has an excellent full-time Pharmacist position available in its inpatient pharmacy. This position works first and second shifts, 10 hrs. per day, 4 days per week.

Borgess Medical Center, (BMC), is a 424-bed, Level 1 trauma center located in Southwest Michigan that offers over 35 medical specialties, including nationally recognized cardiac and neurological programs. The Medical Center is part of Borgess Health, with 3 owned hospitals, a long-term care facility, visiting nurse home care & hospice, ambulatory centers, a health & fitness facility, physician practices, a spine institute, with over 4,000 employees.

BMC is a community teaching hospital that has affiliations with Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies (medical residency program) and Ferris State University (pharmacy program).

BMC is staffed with five management, four Clinical Specialists, sixteen Staff Pharmacists, thirty Certified Technicians, two residents and a full support staff.
